私が最初にみたアルツハイマー病患者のチャートは故アイリス・マードック（「愛する事を教えてくれたあなた。今度は忘れる事を教えて下さいYou taught me how to love you. Now teach me to forget」という名言を持つ作家）だ。ブッカ－賞を受賞し、多作な作家であり、哲学者。25作の小説、劇、詩ほか、多数の哲学書を執筆したアイリスは、豊かな言葉、傑出した知性、そしてやや型破りな性格で知られている。マードック（チャート下）は、彼女のアルツハイマー病を詳細に綴った夫の最初の回想録（98年出版）に基づいて制作された映画「アイリス」で近年世間の注目を集めた。

マードックが亡くなる4年前の1995年に出版された最後の小説『ジャクソンのジレンマ』を、文学批評家ヒューゴ・バーナックルは、「言葉足らずの13歳の女生徒の作品」と評した。アルツハイマー病は、執筆活動に影響を及ぼした。彼女の作品を研究した神経科学者らは、初期の作品よりもずっと語彙が減っている、と主張している。

アイリスの作家としての才能は、執筆に関連する水星と月の2つの天体が表わしている。両天体とも強力な配置のアンギュラーハウスにあり（ASC上とDES上にある）互いに対立しあっている。このオポジションもアルツハイマー病を暗示しているかもしれない。

蟹座の強い性質（太陽と木星コンジャンクション、火星と冥王星コンジャンクション）やアングル上にある月は全て、アルツハイマー病患者が強いられるように、過去に戻り、恐らく過去に生きる可能性がある人を示す。前述したような記憶や幼児に戻って人に依存することにも関連する。また太陽は、ASCにコンジャンクトしている獅子座土星のルーラーでもあり、天体の重要性を強調している。土星は老化のプロセス、また硬直、縮小にも関連している。さらに第一ハウスなので、ある程度私たちの身体を表わす。 また太陽はちょうど金星とセミスクエア。両天体ともミッドポイント・ツリーに現れている。

疾患の研究の中で、疾患を示すものを特定しようとするとき、患者のパートナー、両親、子供のチャートが参考になる。特に長期のパートナーだ。その理由は、投影されるエネルギーは常にもっとシンプルではっきりとそして、より誇張された形で顕現するからだ。人生の中の重要な人物は全て、該当ハウス、天体、サインを通じて必ず現れる。結婚相手は慎重に選んだ方がいい。なぜならあなたの運命は配偶者のチャートに現れることになるから！例えばナンシー・レーガンのチャートはアルツハイマー病が強く示唆されている。

私の知る限り、マードックやナンシー・レーガンのような90歳以上で強い蟹座の性質を持つ人は、身体的には幾分もろいが、精神的には強い。ナンシーの夫、ロナルド・レーガン元大統領はアルツハイマー病に冒された。実際、現役大統領時代にすでに患っていたとみる人は多い。どんな人のチャートでも、第7ハウスとそのルーラーは、その人の配偶者を示し、女性のチャートにある太陽と火星は、女性の人生における男性を表わす。ナンシーは、DSCが牡羊座で、そのルーラーは、太陽、水星、冥王星と共に蟹座にある。全てアルツハイマー病になる夫を示す配置だ。9室にあることから、政治家の夫も示す。DSC上の牡羊座カイロンは、間違いなく、頭の病気に冒された夫を持つ女性だ。ロナルド・レーガンの出生時間は不明だが、月の牡牛座で、水星と海王星のタイトなオポジション。彼は少なくとも10年はこの疾患で苦しんだ。

女優の故リタ・ヘイワース（1940年代の米国のセックスシンボル的女優）は、多くの患者に見られる、顕著な金星を持つチャートの良い例だ。これほどの「金星的なチャート」も「金星的な人生」もなかなかないからだ。

ASCは牡牛座、太陽は天秤座にあることから、ASCと太陽のルーラー金星に着目する。金星も天秤座（そして6室にある）にあり、木星とスクエアを形成していることから、かなり誇張される。喜び・快楽に動機づけられ、人生を楽しみたいだけではなく、人にも喜びを与えたいと思う女性だ。人に譲歩し、人生が彼女に与えること全てを受け入れる。リタは（バレエ、タップ、モダン、「挑発的」）ダンサー、グラマーガール、大手化粧品メーカーのマックス・ファクターのモデル、映画スターだった。61本の映画に出演し、ジーン・ケリーやフレッド・アステアと踊った。全盛期には「愛の女神」と呼ばれ、5回の結婚歴を持つ（オーソン・ウエルズやアーガー・ハーン王子 など）。

リタ・ヘイワースは生涯を通してアルコール依存症に苦しんだ。彼女の子供たちは長年の依存症が、アルツハイマー病の原因だと言っているほどだ。しかし、アルツハイマー病と正式に診断されたのはリタが62歳になった1980年だった。

アルコールが認知症を実際に引き起こしたのではなかったにせよ、大きく寄与したことは間違いない。脳の損傷は、アルコール依存症に関連する大きな健康リスクの一つだ。アルコールは、体の重要な栄養素ビタミンB１を欠乏させることがその理由の一つ。近年だったら、ヘイワースはウェルニッケ・コルサコフ症候群やアルコールによって発症した慢性認知症のような若干アルツハイマー病とは異なる疾患が診断されたであろう。

アルコールとアルツハイマー病両方の観点からはあまり驚くべきことではないが、リタのチャートでは海王星が目立っている。魚座の月がヨードの焦点となっているだけではなく、海王星は、太陽・月のミッドポイントにある。

ヘイワースのチャートを見ると、沢山の理由からアルツハイマー病全般の少なくとも一部を表わしていることは間違いない。1. リタは早期発症アルツハイマー病の症例だった。2. 当時、そして、有名人という立場で、診断について正直に公表したことは非常に珍しかった。3. 米国では、毎年リタ・ヘイワース・ガーラが開催され、アルツハイマー病の治療と予防研究の資金集めが行われる。彼女の名前と病名はしょっちゅう同時に同じ文に言及される。このガーラは1984年（ヘイワースがまだ生存中）に娘のジャスミン・アーガー・ハーン王女が始めた。ヘイワースは翌年の1987年5月14日に亡くなった。67歳だった。

嬉しいことに、認知症全般、そして特にアルツハイマー病は、冥王星が山羊座から抜ける2023年4月、その原因、予防法、治療法がもっと分かるようになっているだろう。天王星が頭に関連するサインの牡羊座から離れる2019年までに分かっている可能性もある。この間、国家運営規模の大きなストレスは避ける。過度の飲酒を控える。そしてビタミンB群やオメガ３の多い栄養豊富な食事を摂り、加工食品、糖分、精製炭水化物を避けることを勧めたい。

The first horoscope that I looked at of a person with Alzheimer’s disease was that of the late Iris Murdoch. Booker prize winner , prolific writer and philosophy lecturer she wrote 25 novels, plays, poetry and various works on philosophy. Iris was known for the richness of her language, her considerable intellect and for being somewhat unconventional. In recent years Murdoch has been brought to the attention of the general public through the film ‘Iris’ based on her husband’s first memoir (published in 1998) in which he described her Alzheimer’s in some detail.

Her last novel ‘Jackson’s Dilemma’ published in 1995, four years before she died, was compared by literary critic Hugo Barnacle to the work of a thirteen year old school girl who didn’t get out enough. Alzheimer’s had got a firm grip in the years’ she was writing the book. Neuro-scientists, having studied it, claim that it shows a much smaller vocabulary than her previous novels.

Murdoch’s writing is shown by the two planets to associate with writing, Mercury and the Moon, being both angular and strong (rising and setting respectively) and opposing each other. The head/heart tug of that opposition may also give a hint to the Alzheimer’s.

The strong Cancerian quality (Sun conjunct Jupiter and Mars conjunct Pluto) and the angular Moon all point to the potential of an individual who returns to the past and perhaps lives in it, as Alzheimer sufferers are forced to do. So appropriate too for the aforementioned association with memory and the return to babyhood and dependency. The Sun is also the ruler of the Saturn in Leo conjunct ASC, stressing the importance of that rising planet. Saturn being the planet to associate with the aging process and also with hardening and shrinkage and the first house as being, to some extent, descriptive of our physical body. The Sun is also exactly semi-square Venus and both appear on a midpoint tree with Neptune on every rung.

When studying a disease and trying to find the significators for it, it can be useful to look at the charts of partners, parents and children of people with the given diagnosis. Especially long-term partners. The reason for this being that projected energy is always enacted in a much simpler, clearer and more exaggerated way. Every significant person in our lives appears in our horoscope via the appropriate houses, planets and signs. Be careful who you marry, because your fate will be described in your spouse’s chart! Take the horoscope for Nancy Reagan for instance. It has strong Alzheimer’s indicators.

Over 90 years of age and a strongly Cancerian individual like Murdoch, Nancy Reagan, is, as far as I am aware, though physically somewhat frail, still mentally strong. Her husband and ex-President Ronald Reagan, did however suffer from Alzheimer’s. Many think whilst he was still in office. In everyone’s chart, the 7th house and the ruler(s) of it describe one’s spouse and in a woman’s chart, the Sun and Mars are descriptive of the men in her life. Nancy has Aries on the Desc and Mars the ruler is in Cancer as is the Sun, Mercury and Pluto. All appropriate for a husband who develops Alzheimer’s. Falling in the 9th they are also appropriate for his being a politician. The Chiron in Aries on the Descendant is surely also apt for a woman whose husband had a disease of the head. Ronald Reagan^*6 himself has an uncertain birth-time but did have a Moon in Taurus and a tight Mercury- Neptune opposition and struggled for at least ten years with the disease.

The late actress Rita Hayworth is a good example of the prominence of Venus in the charts of many sufferers for it would be difficult to find a more Venusian chart or a more Venusian life.

With an Ascendant in Taurus and a Libran Sun, one’s eye immediately goes to the Sun and ASC ruler, Venus, which is also in Libra (and the 6th house) and is hugely exaggerated by its square to Jupiter. Motivated by the pleasure principle, this is a woman who would want not only to enjoy life, but would want to give pleasure to others. One who will give in to others and give in to what life throws at her generally. She was a dancer (ballet, tap, modern, ‘provocative’), glamour girl, model for cosmetic giant Max Factor and a movie star; she appeared in 61 films and danced with the likes of Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire. Known in her day as the ‘Love Goddess’ she married five times (including to Orson Welles and Prince Aly Khan.

Rita Hayworth struggled with alcohol addiction throughout her life, so much so that her children attributed her symptoms for many years to intoxication. She was not properly diagnosed with Alzheimer’s until 1980 when she was 62.

The alcohol undoubtedly contributed greatly to her dementia if it didn’t actually cause it. Brain damage is one of the huge health risks allied to being addicted to alcohol. On reason for this is that alcohol depletes the body of the essential nutrient Vitamin B1(thiamine). Nowadays, Hayworth would probably have been given a subtly different diagnosis to that of Alzheimers, namely, Wernicke-Korsakoff’s dementia or alcohol-induced persisting dementia.

Hardly surprising both from the point of view of the alcohol and the Alzheimer’s is the prominence of Neptune. She not only has Moon in Pisces at the focal point of a yod but Neptune is at the Sun/Moon midpoint.

Arguably, one can take Hayworth’s chart as being representative of at least one facet of the disease as a whole and for a number of reasons; firstly she is a case of early-onset Alzheimer’s and secondly she was quite exceptional for the time and for her celebrity, in being honest and upfront about the diagnosis. Thirdly; in the US there is an annual Rita Hayworth Gala that raises money for research into the treatment and prevention of Alzheimer’s disease. Her name and the disease routinely come together in the same sentence. The gala was started in 1984 (when Hayworth was still alive) by her daughter, Princess Yasmin Aga Khan. Hayworth died on 14 May 1987 aged 67.

The good news about dementia in general and Alzheimer’s in particular, is that by the time Pluto leaves Capricorn in 2023/4, the world will probably have a much better idea as to it’s cause, prevention and treatment. Possibly even by the time Uranus leaves the head related sign of Aries in 2019. Meanwhile, my suggestion is that we don’t try and run the country^*7 (too stressful), that we avoid over-indulging in alcohol but that we do eat a nutrient-rich diet, high in or supplemented by ‘B’ vitamins^*8 and omega 3’s. A diet low in processed foods, sugars and refined carbohydrates.
